META Perspectives: The Director – ‘After Death – A Spiritual Journey’

Taking a look at theatre and META through the lenses of a director of a play. Vikram Mohan, Director of After Death — A Spiritual Journey gives his insights.

1. What is your backstage routine before a performance?
A. My backstage routine is warm ups and run through and all technical things before a performance.

2. Have you had any memorable experience with any Fan/audience during your performances?
A. Ya, I have many experiences with audience. Recently, I performed After Death — The Spiritual Journey. After I finished my performance, an audience member came up to me and said you are very brave to do this kind of work in India because nobody can take that kind of risk to do this. That audience member is a female and she is from Russia.

3. What does META mean to you?
A. It means a lot. META gives me an opportunity to work. For me, performance that is to present my work in front of an audience which META has. It is a great pleasure to perform there. META is one of the reputed awards festivals. If I get an award, for me, it is something I cannot express in words.

4. What is the message you have for the upcoming/struggling actors and directors in theatre?
A. Do hard work. If you are honest with your work you will get an opportunity automatically. Dont try to take a short cut. Because a short cut cannot always give you everything.
