META – A Decade of Excellence

Like the pole star which rises and shines uniquely with consistency every evening to detail the paths of sailors and wanderers on this earth, ten years back from the impetus of Mahindra Group and Teamwork Arts, the Mahindra Excellence in Theatrical Awards was born to stir a way for diverse yet united Indian theater. Since 2006, every year META is providing a concrete and genuine platform for the theater fraternity without any discrimination of status, language or region.

In the last ten years, META has supported and honoured many eminent theater personalities. With an alumni like Nimrat Kaur, META could hardly be called an event, rather it can be considered an institution for theatrical excellence.

META has proved over the years that no dream is too big and no way is too tough for success. With the qualitative and quantitative guidance of Sanjoy Roy and Jay Shah, META is growing at such a velocity that in just ten years it is considered as the ‘Filmfare of theater’. The whole of India is its magnitude and beautiful art form as its direction. META’s claim as the ‘Filmfare of theater’ is unchallenged because of both these aspects.

‘Metatheater’ as a literary technique refers to a way of portrayal which reflects comedy and tragedy at the same time. Lionel Abel, who coined this term in 1963, explained ‘Meta’ as a technique which reflects the world as an extension of human conscience. In my analysis, META has brought the Indian theatrical conscience on stage with all its valor and amusement in the last ten years.

Theater groups from all over the world are now eager to participate in META but the task of promoting the rural, urban and regional Indian theater has kept them still at bay.

From 5th of March 2016, META is going to shine like an evening star with ten amazing performances selected from over 300 entries. It is a privilege for us to host this event and we hope it gives you all much pleasure when you grace us with your presence.
