A retelling of India's freedom movement through the eyes of young revolutionaries
Written & directed by actor-playwright-poet Piyush Mishra in 1994, Gagan Damama Bajyo is a musical that showcases the inspiring life story of one of India's most celebrated freedom fighters and revolutionaries, Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh. The play includes revolutionary, passionate and gut-wrenching songs to melodically express the sentiments of our freedom struggle. It chronicles key moments of the martyr's life, from his induction into revolutionary ideology as a child, his exploration of that ideology as a young man at the National College in Lahore in 1923, to his death by hanging on March 23, 1931. This play looks at India's freedom movement through the eyes of the young revolutionaries

  1. Best Choreography

Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s character has always been very close to my heart. During my research for Gagan Damama Bajyo, I felt very close to him because I had started imagining him. For any writer, I believe imagination plays a very big role. I tried to depict his character as one of us, someone who has a family & friends that he is responsible for. The play shows him as a friend, a son, a lover and an intellectual, who found himself unable to sit back in a country fighting for its freedom from oppression. He was one of the biggest revolutionaries and his contribution to India’s freedom is really valuable.
