Bhoothangal
This is a play about a cruel womaniser, who despite being bedridden for ages, continues to harass his wife and son. As his family waits for him to die, villagers form a mob demanding to kill him and his family faces a hard decision that could alter their lives forever…
A cruel womaniser, who cheated death and has been bedridden for ages, harasses his wife and son out of spite. As his family waits for him to die, villagers form a mob demanding to kill him because of his actions. When he tricks his wife into allowing him to spend time alone with another woman, his family faces a hard decision that could alter their lives forever. In this play, Njoonju, a rubber-tapper lives with his parents wife and his son in a small village. Ittychan, his father, is bedridden, but has always been narcissistic, cruel, and a womaniser.

As a director of the play Bhoothangal, I have used Stanislavski Method Acting to portray the complexities of the human mind in order to develop the characters in the actors. The blend of physiological acting and stylised acting methods creates harmony to shape the drama.
The choreography and music have been seamlessly woven into this play while ensuring that all elements of theatre have been incorporated in the right proportion. At a deeper level, this family drama resonates with a man’s greed for possession, his lunacy for worldly pleasures, his disregard for relationships when it comes to his own pleasures, and the contorted paths that he would traverse to feed his narcissism. The drama unfolds through the mind of an eight-year -old who is exposed to such a nefarious environment, implying its influence on the formation of his character.
